The female employees of Cabify , the Spanish multi-mobility platform, have launched the #InspirandoFuturasTECH challenge on the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, which is celebrated every February 11 to support female scientists and promote female access to education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
This movement, launched this week on the social network Linkedin, aims to highlight those aspects that mark gender inequality in STEM professions and communities.
According to data published by the Social Observatory of the "la finland number data Caixa" Foundation, only 16% of professionals in the STEM field are women, and the situation is similar in education, where the percentage of adolescents interested in studying a degree in these disciplines is 0.7%*. Although the data is gradually improving, the gender gap in professions such as mathematics, technology, engineering and science is still a reality.
In this sense, the initiative proposed by Cabify employees seeks citizen participation to reclaim the scarce female presence in these professions. To do so, interested people are encouraged to publish a post on LinkedIn sharing their opinion on what to do so that more women and girls can become interested and explore the possibilities offered by the STEM sector, including the hashtag #InspirandoFuturasTECH in the content and mentioning two women to bring the initiative to the greatest possible number of people.
“Women in professions linked to science and technology continue to be underrepresented around the world. In many cases, this is due to the difficulty they have in accessing higher education programmes, although in other cases this gap is attributed to a lack of knowledge about the opportunities that professions linked to these industries can offer to women. Initiatives such as #InspirandoFuturasTECH help to make these aspects visible, and how we can change society's stereotypes about these professions to increase the presence of women in the STEM sector,” says Virginia Grenon, HR Operation Senior Manager Global at Cabify.
