Goals and Benefits of Retrospectives

A retrospective is a look back. The term is often used in the art scene, but also plays a role in social issues, politics and, not least, marketing, which is what we are going to talk about here. However, the term is most commonly used in art, for example in art exhibitions that shed light on artists' creative phases or their entire work. The curators or organizers then look back at the artistic process in order to make a development understandable. The same can be done in the field of marketing ( source: Wikipedia ).

What is a retrospective in a company?
In the Scrum method, which is used primarily in software development and also life insurance email list in other project management, retrospectives are a natural part of the work. They are regular events at which teams meet to examine the recent past. This is intended to improve future collaboration. At the retrospective meeting, participants analyze all processes, the tools used, their experiences, their relationships with one another, and future challenges. In software development, the term sprint has become common for individual project phases. Accordingly, there is a sprint retrospective, which the Scrum Guide officially calls this. Participants are the developers, the Scrum Master, and in some cases the product owner. There are also meetings just for the team.


The goals of a Scrum team retrospective are to improve collaboration within the team and to optimize processes and content. This works through better coordinated cooperation between individual developers, with the help of more efficient leadership by the Scrum Master and more targeted communication between the team and the product owner. This results in advantages within the framework of the continuous improvement process, which benefits from measures that can be derived from the jointly gained knowledge. The approach also avoids frustration and misunderstandings within the team through open feedback.
